I forgot my access code. How can I reset it?

If you forget the access code for one of your Tangem devices, you can reset the access code and create a new one in the Tangem app.

To reset the access code, you'll need:

  • the device whose access code you want to reset
  • another device from the same wallet to confirm the reset

The steps depend on whether you use biometric authentication:

  1. Open the Tangem app and tap the three dots in the upper-right corner of the home screen.
  2. Select your wallet from the list.
  3. Go to Device settings.
  4. Enter your access code or use biometric authentication and scan the device whose access code you want to reset.
  5. Tap Forgot your code?
  6. Enter and confirm a new access code.
  7. Tap Continue, then scan the device you're resetting the code for. Wait for the 15-second countdown to finish.
  8. Tap Continue, then scan another device from the same wallet. Wait for the 15-second countdown to finish.
  9. Scan the device you're resetting the code for once more to finish.
  1. Open the Tangem app and scan the device whose access code you want to reset.
  2. Tap Forgot your code?
  3. Enter and confirm a new access code.
  4. Tap Continue, then scan the device you're resetting the code for. Wait for the 15-second countdown to finish.
  5. Tap Continue, then scan another device from the same wallet. Wait for the 15-second countdown to finish.
  6. Scan the device you're resetting the code for once more to finish.

Your access code has been reset, and you can now use the new one to access your wallet.

Detailed instructions are also available in our blog article: How to reset the access code on Tangem Wallet.

Note

  • An access code can be any word, phrase, or number. It must be at least 4 characters long, with no maximum length.
  • The access code is stored separately on each Tangem device. When you reset the access code, it changes only on the selected device. To reset it on the additional cards or rings in the set, repeat these steps for each device.
  • You can start the reset from any screen where the app asks for your access code — for example, when signing a transaction or opening device settings. If you enter the wrong code, the Forgot your code? button will appear, which lets you begin the reset.

Error when changing or resetting the access code: "This card cannot be used to reset the access code"

To reset the access code, you will need two Tangem devices: the device whose access code you want to change, and an additional device from the backup to confirm the reset.

This error occurs when you try to scan a Tangem device that is not linked to your current wallet. This means that the scanned Tangem device is not associated with the same wallet as the device for which you are trying to change the access code.

If you reset all but one of the linked devices, you cannot restore the access code for the leftover one. In addition, you can't factory reset this device without entering the current access code.

Error when changing or resetting the access code: "Error 41301"

To reset the access code, you will need two Tangem devices: the device whose access code you want to change, and an additional device from the backup to confirm the reset.

Error 41301 occurs in two cases:

  1. This error appears if you scan the same device instead of a backup one.
Remember: during the "Scan backup device" step, you must scan a different device from the backup set, e.g., another card or ring linked to the current wallet, not the exact device you are trying to reset.
  2. This error also occurs if you are trying to scan a Tangem device that is not linked to your current wallet. This means that the scanned Tangem device is not associated with the same wallet as the device for which you are trying to change the access code.

If you reset all but one of the linked devices, you cannot restore the access code for the leftover one. In addition, you can't factory reset this device without entering the current access code.

Error when changing or resetting the access code: "Unable to reset access code using this card"

This error appears when access code recovery is disabled on the Tangem device you are trying to use.

When the Recover access code option is turned off for a card or ring:

  • You cannot reset the access code on that device using another backup device.
  • You cannot use that device to help recover the access code on another card or ring from the same wallet.

How to check whether access code recovery is enabled

  1. Open the Tangem app and tap the three dots in the upper-right corner of the home screen.
  2. Select your wallet from the list.
  3. Go to Device Settings.
  4. Enter your access code or use biometric authentication and scan the Tangem card or ring.
  5. Select Access code recovery. If the option is disabled, the device cannot participate in access code recovery.

Can I recover my access code?
You can recover or reset an access code only if at least one other backup device from the same wallet has access code recovery enabled. If access code recovery was disabled on all backup devices before the access code was forgotten, the access code cannot be recovered.
