Tangem Wallet Overview
How Tangem Works
Tangem Wallet has two components that work together:
- The physical device — a card or ring — contains a secure chip that stores your private key. It has no battery, no screen, and no internet connection. The chip only activates when you hold the device near your phone.
- The mobile app — available for iOS and Android — is the interface you use to manage your wallet, view balances, and initiate transactions.
To access the wallet, your smartphone must:
- run Android 6.0 or later, or iOS 15.0 or later
- and have full NFC support
The app and device communicate via NFC (Near Field Communication) — the same short-range wireless technology used in contactless payments. NFC enables devices to exchange data when placed within a few centimeters of each other.

FAQ
Can a Tangem device be hacked?
At the core of every Tangem device lies a powerful, certified chip developed in collaboration with Samsung Semiconductor.
It features an EAL6+ certified secure element — the highest security standard for commercial chips.
This certification protects against both invasive attacks (physically opening the chip to analyze its layers) and non-invasive attacks (analyzing the chip’s behavior externally without opening it, including attempts to measure side-channel signals using a highly sensitive oscilloscope).
The chip is equipped with multiple sensors (laser, temperature, light, power) that respond to unauthorized access by automatically erasing the private key if tampering is detected.
Since its launch in 2017, we have distributed over 6 million devices without a single one being compromised.
Can a Tangem device become demagnetized?
The chip contains no magnetic elements.
