Managing Your Access Code
This article applies only to Tangem Hardware Wallets.

The access code is a mandatory security feature designed to protect your wallet and assets. You set it up during the wallet initialization process. This code is required every time you access your wallet, ensuring that only you (or someone who knows the code) can access and manage your assets.
If biometric authentication is enabled, your access code will be filled in automatically after a successful biometric scan. If the scan is not successful, you will be prompted to manually enter your access code to access your wallet.
How do I change my access code?
If you know your current access code, you can change it in the Tangem app.
- Open the Tangem app and tap the three dots in the upper-right corner of the home screen.
- Select your wallet.
- Go to Device settings.
- Enter your access code or use biometric authentication and scan the device for which you want to change the access code.
- Enter the current access code and tap Continue.
- Enter your access code or use biometric authentication and scan the device for which you want to change the access code again.
- Select Change Access Code and enter your access code or use biometric authentication.
- Enter and confirm a new access code and tap Continue.
- Scan the device for which you want to change the access code.
Detailed instructions are also available in our blog article: How to change the access code on Tangem Wallet.
Note:
- An access code can be any word, phrase, or number. It must be at least 4 characters long, with no maximum length.
- The access code is stored separately on each Tangem device. Changing the access code on one device does not affect the others. To change it on the other cards or rings in the same wallet, repeat these steps for each device.
I forgot my access code. How can I reset it?
If you forget the access code for one of your Tangem devices, you can reset the access code and create a new one in the Tangem app.
To reset the access code, you'll need:
- the device whose access code you want to reset
- another device from the same wallet to confirm the reset
The steps depend on whether you use biometric authentication:
- Open the Tangem app and tap the three dots in the upper-right corner of the home screen.
- Select your wallet from the list.
- Go to Device settings.
- Enter your access code or use biometric authentication and scan the device whose access code you want to reset.
- Tap Forgot your code?
- Enter and confirm a new access code.
- Tap Continue, then scan the device you're resetting the code for. Wait for the 15-second countdown to finish.
- Tap Continue, then scan another device from the same wallet. Wait for the 15-second countdown to finish.
- Scan the device you're resetting the code for once more to finish.
- Open the Tangem app and scan the device whose access code you want to reset.
Your access code has been reset, and you can now use the new one to access your wallet.
Detailed instructions are also available in our blog article: How to reset the access code on Tangem Wallet.
Note:
- An access code can be any word, phrase, or number. It must be at least 4 characters long, with no maximum length.
- The access code is stored separately on each Tangem device. When you reset the access code, it changes only on the selected device. To reset it on the additional cards or rings in the set, repeat these steps for each device.
- You can start the reset from any screen where the app asks for your access code — for example, when signing a transaction or opening device settings. If you enter the wrong code, the Forgot your code? button will appear, which lets you begin the reset.
How can I disable the access code recovery option?
Tangem Wallet 2.0 now lets you turn off the option to recover your access code with a backup device. This makes your wallet safer, but keep in mind that if you disable this feature and lose your access code, you won't be able to recover it.
Key points about this feature
If the code recovery option is turned off for a device, you cannot recover the access code on that device or use it to recover the code on another device.
How to enable/disable access code recovery
- Open the Tangem app and tap on the three dots in the top right corner.
- Select the desired wallet from the list.
- Next, go to Device Settings.
- Tap Scan and place the device near your smartphone's NFC module.
- Enter your access code.
- Tap Continue and place the device near your smartphone's NFC module.
- Select Recover access code. Turn this option on or off.
- Tap Save Changes and confirm the action using the access code and device.
- Repeat these steps for each device from the backup if you want to apply the same settings to all.
If you forget your access code, you can't recover it after disabling recovery. So, think carefully before turning off this feature.
