MediaTek unveils Dimensity 9600 Pro for premium phones

MediaTek launched Dimensity 9600 Pro and 9600M chips on TSMC’s 2nm and 3nm nodes, offering major AI and efficiency gains. Targeting the premium market, they’ll appear in Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo devices soon.

MediaTek has introduced its Dimensity 9600 Pro and 9600M mobile processors, marking a significant move into the premium smartphone market. These chips are built on TSMC’s advanced 2nm and 3nm process nodes, offering notable improvements in performance and efficiency. The Dimensity 9600 Pro, utilizing TSMC’s 2nm technology, delivers up to 17% higher single-core and 15% higher multi-core CPU performance compared to its predecessor, while reducing multi-core power consumption by 61%. It also features advanced AI capabilities, including a neural processing unit that supports on-device generative AI with up to 30 billion parameters and a 51% boost in AI prompt handling speed. The 9600M variant is designed for a wider range of flagship phones. MediaTek positions these new chips as direct competitors to Qualcomm’s premium offerings, with competitive pricing and expected adoption by brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo. The first devices featuring these processors are expected by year-end, despite ongoing memory shortages affecting component costs.
