Laser Digital Japan secures new crypto exchange license
Laser Digital Japan, backed by Nomura, received Japan’s first new crypto exchange license in four years, offering six cryptocurrencies and targeting institutional trading amid regulatory progress.
Laser Digital Japan, backed by Nomura, has secured registration as a crypto asset exchange service provider, marking the first new approval of its kind in Japan in four years. The Kanto Local Finance Bureau granted the license, enabling Laser Digital to offer trading services for six cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, and SHIB. Initially, Laser Digital will focus on providing liquidity to domestic virtual asset service providers. The company also plans to expand its offerings to include digital asset trading for institutional investors, reflecting the growing demand in the sector. This development follows Japan’s recent reclassification of cryptocurrencies as financial products, which paves the way for potential crypto ETFs and a new tax system starting in 2027. Surveys by Nomura and Laser Digital show that 79% of institutional respondents plan to invest in crypto assets within the next three years, highlighting the market’s increasing maturity and regulatory progress.
