Tennessee bans crypto ATMs amid regulatory crackdown

Tennessee has banned crypto ATMs, while Georgia set strict rules. Indiana and Minnesota have similar bans, signaling a nationwide regulatory crackdown on crypto kiosks.

Tennessee has implemented a sweeping ban on cryptocurrency ATMs and kiosks, effective July 1. Operators are now required to remove all machines and halt operations throughout the state. Before this measure, Tennessee had 185 active crypto ATMs. Meanwhile, Georgia has introduced new regulations for crypto ATMs, including transaction limits, mandatory customer warnings, enhanced reporting requirements, and refund provisions in cases of suspected fraud. These changes are part of a broader trend, following Indiana’s ban in March and Minnesota’s upcoming ban set for August 1. The crackdown is largely driven by concerns over scams targeting residents, particularly seniors, via crypto ATMs. Lawmakers in Delaware and New Jersey have also proposed similar bans. This evolving regulatory landscape poses major operational and financial challenges for crypto ATM businesses, which often depend on these machines for revenue.
