Super Micro Taiwan raided over Nvidia AI chip smuggling

Taiwanese prosecutors raided Super Micro’s Taiwan office and affiliates over alleged Nvidia AI chip smuggling to China. Servers were seized, shares fell, and the company is cooperating with authorities.

Taiwanese authorities have intensified their investigation into alleged smuggling of Nvidia AI chips to China. Raids were conducted on Super Micro Computer’s Taiwan office, six residences, and three affiliated companies. The Keelung District Prosecutors Office led the operation, following earlier raids in May 2026 that targeted 12 locations and resulted in the seizure of around 50 high-end Super Micro servers containing restricted Nvidia chips. The investigation centers on accusations of using forged documents and fraudulent customs declarations to export these servers to China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Distributor Albatron Technology and data center operator Chief Telecom were among those searched, with Albatron reporting no material financial or operational impact. Super Micro shares dropped sharply following the news, and several individuals were summoned for questioning. The company stated it is cooperating with authorities and has not been charged. The probe highlights ongoing enforcement of US and Taiwanese export controls, contributing to volatility in related markets.
