ASIC extends crypto licensing relief to September 2026

ASIC extends enforcement relief for Australian crypto firms seeking licences to September 30, 2026. About 30 firms have applied since the INFO 225 update.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has extended temporary enforcement relief for digital asset businesses seeking financial services licences. The deadline has moved from June 30 to September 30, 2026, giving crypto firms additional time to apply for Australian Financial Services Licences, Australian Market Licences, or clearing and settlement facility licences. This extension also covers businesses operating as authorised representatives or through intermediary arrangements. To qualify, firms must notify ASIC, participate in pre-application meetings, and comply with all conditions outlined in ASIC’s updated class no-action correspondence. The extension does not remove legal obligations or weaken consumer protection. Since the INFO 225 guidance update, around 30 digital asset firms have applied. Comprehensive digital asset regulations are expected to take effect on April 9, 2027.
