Ripple acquires BC Payments for Australian license, targets APAC
Ripple will acquire BC Payments Australia to secure an AFSL, expanding regulated cross-border payment services and compliance in the Asia Pacific region.
Ripple is set to acquire BC Payments Australia to obtain an Australian Financial Services License (AFSL). This strategic move will enable Ripple to expand its regulated offerings and manage end-to-end transaction processes for cross-border payments in the Asia Pacific region. The acquisition, expected to close by April 1, will allow Ripple to oversee the entire transaction lifecycle, including onboarding, compliance, funding, foreign exchange, liquidity management, and payouts. This integration bridges traditional banking systems with digital assets, enhancing Ripple’s service capabilities. Ripple’s payments volume in Asia Pacific nearly doubled in 2025, supported by partnerships with local firms like Hai Ha Money Transfer and Caleb & Brown. The AFSL will be Ripple’s 76th regulatory license globally, complementing approvals in the UK, EU, and US. This step aligns with Ripple’s strategy to strengthen its global compliance framework and scale its payment solutions across key markets.
