JPMorgan forecasts Bitcoin to outperform stocks by 2036
JPMorgan projects Bitcoin could deliver a 10% annual return over the next decade, outpacing stocks and gold. However, high volatility keeps it out of the bank’s main portfolio models for now.
JPMorgan Asset Management has, for the first time, included Bitcoin in its long-term capital market assumptions. The bank projects a 10% compounded annual return for Bitcoin over the next 10 to 15 years, surpassing its forecasts for U.S. large-cap stocks (7.5%), real estate investment trusts (8.2%), and gold (5.5%). The report assigns Bitcoin an expected volatility of 55%, significantly higher than that of stocks and gold. It also notes that Bitcoin’s arithmetic average annual return could reach 20.9%. Despite these optimistic projections, JPMorgan has not added Bitcoin to its main portfolio models, citing unstable correlations and high volatility. This inclusion marks a significant step in recognizing Bitcoin as a mainstream investment asset and may influence both retail and institutional strategies. Some commentators argue the volatility estimate is too high and the return estimate too low, but the outlook highlights Bitcoin’s growing role in diversified portfolios.
