Canadian banks disclose XRP ETF holdings in SEC filings
National Bank of Canada and Bank of Montreal disclosed XRP ETF holdings in SEC filings, choosing regulated products over direct token ownership—a cautious institutional entry into crypto by major Canadian banks.
The National Bank of Canada and Bank of Montreal have recently disclosed holdings in XRP-focused exchange-traded funds (ETFs) through filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The National Bank of Canada reported owning 3,848 shares of the Bitwise XRP ETF, valued at around $330,000, in addition to Bitcoin ETF positions totaling approximately $6.4 million. Meanwhile, the Bank of Montreal revealed exposure to XRP via 323 shares of the Rex Osprey XRP ETF and 20 shares of the ProShares Ultra XRP ETF, within a portfolio exceeding $303 billion as of June 2026. Both institutions chose regulated ETF products over direct token ownership, signaling a cautious approach to digital asset exposure. Recent filings also show a shift in XRP fund ownership from large early investors to midsize asset managers and family offices. These developments underscore a growing trend among Canadian banks to access cryptocurrency markets through regulated investment vehicles.
