U.S. Bank pilots USBDC stablecoin on Stellar blockchain

U.S. Bank piloted its USBDC stablecoin on Stellar, testing cross-border payments, compliance, and integration. Customer rollout and commercialization timelines remain unannounced.

U.S. Bank, the fifth-largest commercial bank in the U.S., has successfully completed a live pilot of its proprietary USBDC stablecoin. The pilot enabled real-time cross-border payments between the bank’s North American and European branches using the public Stellar blockchain. This test covered the full lifecycle of the stablecoin, including minting, redemption, payment execution, freezing, and clawback features. It also validated integration with the bank’s digital infrastructure and risk management systems, emphasizing robust compliance and operational controls. Unlike many banks that use private networks, U.S. Bank chose the open Stellar blockchain, demonstrating secure, large-scale capital transfers on public rails. While the initiative highlights the bank’s commitment to blockchain for treasury operations and liquidity management, no timeline has been provided for customer availability or commercialization of USBDC.
