Polygon has implemented the Madhugiri hard fork, introducing a 33% increase in network throughput and reducing block consensus time to one second. The upgrade incorporates several Ethereum Fusaka EIPs, optimizing transaction processing, reducing gas fees, and enhancing security. Key technical changes include one-second consensus, canonical StateSync inclusion, and new gas cost adjustments. The hard fork also introduces a new transaction type for Ethereum-Polygon bridge traffic and allows for future block-time adjustments without additional hard forks. These enhancements improve node synchronization, block production reliability, and execution layer protection. The upgrade aims to support high-frequency use cases such as real-world asset tokenization and stablecoins, reinforcing Polygon's infrastructure for scalability and efficiency. Previous upgrades, including Heimdall v2 and the Bhilai Hardfork, laid the foundation for these improvements. The ongoing GigaGas roadmap seeks to further increase capacity and modularity, supporting enterprise adoption and stable performance.
