Story Protocol is now DATA Foundation, focusing on AI training data infrastructure, launching new tools, and migrating its token to DATA.

Story Protocol, previously focused on intellectual property licensing, has rebranded as the DATA Foundation and shifted its mission toward building infrastructure for AI training data. This move addresses the growing challenge faced by AI developers who have exhausted publicly available internet data for model training. The DATA Foundation is introducing systems for sourcing, verifying, licensing, and compensating contributors of AI training data. Key initiatives include the launch of Trace, an on-chain registry, and partnerships with platforms like Kled and Poseidon. The foundation will migrate its native IP token to the new DATA token at a 1:1 ratio. Following the rebrand and strategic pivot, the DATA token experienced a 16.7% price increase, even as the broader crypto market declined. The foundation aims to provide a transparent, scalable solution for AI labs seeking high-quality, legally sourced data, addressing the industry's shift from compute constraints to data sourcing challenges.
