The Solana Foundation and its developer teams have announced detailed plans to address potential quantum computing threats to blockchain security. Their strategy focuses on adopting Falcon, a post-quantum digital signature scheme, which both Anza and Firedancer teams independently identified as suitable for Solana’s high-throughput needs. Early Falcon implementations are already available in public repositories, demonstrating practical readiness. The roadmap prioritizes wallet-level upgrades and a gradual, phased migration to minimize network disruption. Blueshift’s Winternitz Vault has already been deployed as a quantum-resistant solution. While quantum computing is not considered an immediate threat, Solana’s approach emphasizes proactive research, infrastructure readiness, and ecosystem coordination to ensure a swift transition if needed, with minimal impact on network performance. Meanwhile, MARA Holdings has launched the MARA Foundation to bolster Bitcoin’s resilience against quantum threats. The foundation will fund open-source development, research, and education, focusing on maintaining Bitcoin’s core network properties and security.
