SBI Group to launch regulated yen stablecoin JPYSC
SBI Group and Startale Group will launch the yen-pegged stablecoin JPYSC this week, issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank and distributed by SBI VC Trade under Japan’s trust-bank rules.
SBI Group, in partnership with Startale Group, will launch the yen-pegged stablecoin JPYSC this week, following approval from Japan's Financial Services Agency. The stablecoin will be issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank and distributed by SBI VC Trade, operating under Japan’s trust-bank regulatory framework as a Type 3 Electronic Payment Instrument. JPYSC will be pegged 1:1 to the Japanese yen and issued on a blockchain platform. Reserve management will be handled by the trust bank to ensure stability. The project aims to integrate JPYSC with SBI’s securities, crypto assets, and banking services, improving fund settlement and asset trading efficiency. The trust-based structure enables larger remittances, bypassing the 1 million yen cap on some payment instruments, and targets enterprise settlement, tokenized assets, and cross-border payments. This initiative stands out for its regulatory compliance, setting it apart from offshore stablecoin models and marking a significant step in Japan’s digital payment landscape.
