Western Union has launched USDPT, a stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar and built on the Solana blockchain. Issued by Anchorage Digital Bank N.A., USDPT is designed to modernize Western Union’s global payments and remittance infrastructure. The token enables 24/7 settlement, reduces idle liquidity, and streamlines agent and treasury operations. USDPT will be integrated into Western Union’s payment systems, with plans for global exchange support. The company also announced a consumer-facing service, Stable by Western Union, expected to launch in over 40 countries by 2026. This move marks a significant shift from traditional correspondent banking to blockchain-based solutions, aiming for lower costs, faster settlements, and greater efficiency. The announcement boosted Western Union’s stock price, reflecting investor confidence in its digital transformation.
