PayPal expands PYUSD stablecoin to 70 countries

PayPal expanded PYUSD access from 2 to 70 countries, letting millions buy, hold, send, and receive the stablecoin. The move aims to cut remittance costs and boost global digital payments adoption.

PayPal has expanded access to its stablecoin, PayPal USD (PYUSD), from just two markets to approximately 70 countries worldwide, including regions in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. This move enables millions of users to buy, hold, send, and receive PYUSD directly within their PayPal wallets. Users can also transfer the token to external wallets or convert it to local currency. The expansion aims to reduce remittance costs, eliminate currency exchange fees, and offer a stable digital dollar option in markets with high banking fees or limited financial infrastructure. PYUSD is backed one-to-one by U.S. dollar deposits and issued on the Ethereum blockchain. With a market cap of around $4.1 billion, PYUSD adoption is accelerating. This rollout strengthens PayPal’s position in global digital payments and cryptocurrency, offering consumers and merchants faster settlements, lower costs, and greater flexibility for cross-border transactions.
