Solana Survives Record DDoS Attack With Zero Downtime

Solana withstood a record 6 Tbps DDoS attack for over a week with no downtime or performance issues, maintaining sub-second transaction confirmations and stable network activity throughout.

Solana faced a sustained distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack peaking at 6 terabits per second, ranking as one of the largest in internet history and the fourth-largest in 2025. Despite the scale and duration of the attack, which lasted over a week, Solana reported no network degradation, downtime, or delays in transaction confirmations. Blocks continued to be produced on schedule, with sub-second transaction confirmations and stable slot latency. Infrastructure enhancements, including the Firedancer validator client and QUIC protocol improvements, contributed to the network's resilience. Validators and applications remained online, and users experienced no visible disruption. The attack coincided with Solana's Breakpoint event and strong network activity, including record payment volumes. The identity and motivation of the attackers remain unknown, and the Solana Foundation has not issued an official statement. In contrast, other blockchains like SUI experienced performance issues under smaller DDoS attacks. Solana's ability to maintain full performance under extreme stress demonstrates significant progress in network security and reliability.
