US and UK join forces to tackle crypto scam centers
The US and UK have launched a joint alliance to fight crypto scam centers, sharing intelligence and coordinating investigations. A disruption operation is planned in London amid rising crypto fraud losses.
The United States and United Kingdom have formed a joint law enforcement alliance to combat crypto and cyber-enabled investment fraud. This partnership, formalized through a memorandum of understanding between the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, the Crown Prosecution Service of England and Wales, and the UK National Crime Agency, marks a pioneering step in international cooperation. The agreement enables parallel investigations, intelligence sharing on organized crime networks, and coordinated prosecution decisions. Authorities have already identified overlapping cases and plan a disruption operation with private-sector partners in London in early October. This initiative responds to a sharp rise in crypto investment fraud losses, which surged by 89% in the US from $4.57 billion in 2023 to $8.65 billion in 2025, according to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center. The alliance builds on the Scam Center Strike Force, established in November 2025, and targets transnational organized crime, including human trafficking and money laundering networks.
