Core DAO launches emergency hard fork after exploit

Core DAO is launching an emergency hard fork after validators exploited a flaw to claim excess CORE rewards. The issue is contained, user assets are safe, and exchanges have suspended transfers.

Core DAO is initiating an emergency hard fork after a small group of validators exploited a vulnerability in the network’s reward system, enabling them to claim more CORE tokens than intended. The exploit has been contained, and the responsible validators can no longer access excess rewards. The upcoming hard fork is a forward upgrade, meaning it will not reverse any previously confirmed transactions or roll back the network. Core DAO has emphasized that user assets remain secure and the issue was strictly limited to reward distribution. Several exchanges, including Coinbase, Bithumb, Coinone, Bitget, and LBank, have suspended CORE transfers and deposits as a precaution. Core DAO has not yet disclosed the total amount of excess CORE issued, the incident’s duration, or whether any extra tokens entered circulation. A technical postmortem will be released for transparency as the team works with validators to implement a permanent fix and restore network stability.
