Crypto hacks soar: Ethereum and Solana hit hardest in 2026
Blockaid reports record crypto hack losses in H1 2026: $1–3.1B stolen across 212 incidents. Ethereum and Solana suffered most, mainly from key thefts and phishing, making cybersecurity a top concern.
Blockaid’s security report for the first half of 2026 reveals record-breaking losses in the crypto industry due to hacks, with estimates ranging from over $1 billion to $3.1 billion, depending on the source. The number of security incidents reached an all-time high, as Blockaid tracked 212 incidents and more than 75 major attacks. Ethereum and Solana were the most heavily targeted networks, accounting for the largest share of losses. Ethereum suffered approximately $332 million to $1.63 billion in stolen funds, while Solana lost about $326 million. The largest single exploit involved KelpDAO, resulting in a $292 million loss. Attack methods have shifted, with private key thefts and phishing attacks now surpassing smart contract exploits. Hackers are increasingly targeting users, wallets, and crypto infrastructure, making cybersecurity a critical concern. Blockaid notes that Ethereum’s high losses are tied to its concentration of value and applications, not necessarily greater vulnerability.
