Gannon Ken Van Dyke, an active-duty U.S. Army soldier, has been arrested and charged with several federal crimes. Authorities allege that Van Dyke used classified information about a planned military operation targeting Nicolás Maduro to place bets on the crypto prediction market Polymarket. According to reports, Van Dyke accessed confidential details from Operation Absolute Resolve and wagered $33,000 on Venezuela-related outcomes between December 26, 2025, and January 2, 2026. He ultimately profited approximately $400,000 from these bets. The indictment accuses Van Dyke of unlawfully using confidential government information for personal gain, theft of nonpublic government information, commodities fraud, wire fraud, and making an unlawful monetary transaction. He allegedly laundered the winnings through cryptocurrency channels. The case has sparked discussions among lawmakers about regulating prediction market participation by individuals with access to sensitive information.
