Taiwan Reveals 210 Bitcoin and NT$1.3B in Seized Crypto Assets

Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice holds 210.45 Bitcoin and other crypto assets seized from criminal cases, valued at about NT$1.3 billion. Authorities are considering options for their disposal, including auction or strategic reserve.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice has disclosed that it currently holds 210.45 Bitcoin, along with other digital assets such as Ethereum and stablecoins, seized from criminal cases. The total value of these confiscated crypto assets is estimated at approximately NT$1.3 billion. The assets were obtained through various investigations involving fraud, money laundering, and other financial crimes. Authorities have not yet decided on the final disposition of these assets, with options including liquidation through auction, transferring proceeds to public revenue, or considering Bitcoin as a strategic reserve. The disclosure comes amid ongoing debates in Taiwan about crypto regulation and the handling of seized digital assets. The Ministry’s efforts reflect a move towards standardizing the seizure, storage, and management of virtual assets within the judicial system. Some lawmakers have suggested adding Bitcoin to national reserves, but any long-term use would require legislative approval and coordination with financial regulators. Taiwan’s approach is seen as part of a broader trend of governments managing and disclosing seized crypto assets.
