Bank of Russia opens crypto access to retail investors
Bank of Russia allows non-qualified investors to buy Bitcoin, Ether, and USDT with a 300,000 ruble annual limit. Qualified investors face no restrictions. Testing and risk disclosure are required for all.
The Bank of Russia has permitted non-qualified investors to purchase Bitcoin, Ether, and USDT starting in November. These purchases can be made through brokers, asset managers, or crypto exchanges, both on exchange and over-the-counter markets. However, non-qualified investors are limited to buying no more than 300,000 rubles worth of these assets per year through a single intermediary. Qualified investors, on the other hand, can acquire any crypto assets without restrictions. Regardless of investor status, everyone must pass a test and review the risks associated with cryptocurrency investments before making a transaction. Only the most liquid assets are included, based on criteria such as market capitalization, average daily trading volume, and a minimum five-year price history on foreign platforms. This regulatory approach is designed to mitigate risks for non-qualified investors entering the crypto market.
