Milei cleared in $LIBRA crypto fraud case

Argentine courts cleared Javier and Karina Milei of $LIBRA crypto fraud, ruling their actions did not constitute a crime.

The Argentine judiciary has dismissed charges against Javier Milei and his sister Karina regarding alleged fraud tied to the promotion of the $LIBRA cryptocurrency on social media in 2025. Federal Judge Marcelo Martínez de Giorgi accepted prosecutor Eduardo Taiano’s request, concluding that the reported actions do not constitute a crime. This decision also extends to nine other individuals who were under investigation. The case originated after Milei promoted $LIBRA on X, which triggered a rapid surge and subsequent crash in the token’s value, causing significant losses for thousands of investors. However, the court ruled that merely promoting a cryptocurrency does not amount to criminal deception or abuse of authority. The ruling emphasized that price volatility is inherent to digital assets. While the decision can be appealed, the case is currently closed.
