Australia suspends Cryptolink Bitcoin ATMs over AML issues
AUSTRAC suspended Cryptolink’s registration for three months, shutting down its Bitcoin ATMs due to ongoing anti-money laundering compliance failures and previous reporting breaches.
Australia’s anti-money laundering regulator, AUSTRAC, has suspended Cryptolink’s registration as a Virtual Asset Service Provider for three months, leading to the shutdown of its Bitcoin ATMs nationwide. The suspension, effective from Sunday, was imposed due to ongoing concerns about Cryptolink’s compliance with anti-money laundering obligations, including failures in basic reporting such as threshold transaction reports and lack of response to information requests. This action follows a previous fine of $56,340 and an enforceable undertaking in October 2025, after AUSTRAC’s Cryptocurrency Taskforce identified breaches like late transaction reporting and weaknesses in risk assessments. Cryptolink operates 96 ATMs across major Australian cities. Australia leads the Asia-Pacific region in the number of crypto ATMs, and authorities have intensified scrutiny of their use in criminal activities since late 2024.
