Binance faces EU setback as Greece may reject MiCA license

Binance risks losing EU access as Greek regulators reportedly plan to reject its MiCA license, threatening operations in all 27 EU countries after July 1, 2026.

Binance is encountering a major regulatory challenge in the European Union. Reports indicate that Greek authorities are preparing to reject Binance’s application for a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license. The application, submitted in January 2026 through a Greek subsidiary, was designed to allow Binance to operate across all 27 EU member states, as a single MiCA license provides passporting rights. If the Hellenic Capital Market Commission denies the license, Binance could lose its legal ability to serve EU customers after the July 1, 2026 compliance deadline. This would prevent Binance from operating under the EU’s new regulatory framework and could give licensed competitors such as Coinbase and Kraken a significant advantage. Binance maintains that it has met all MiCA requirements and has not received an official rejection. However, if the reports are accurate, this development would represent a substantial setback for Binance’s ambitions in the European market.
