BitGo Europe secures dual EU licenses for crypto services

BitGo Europe gains dual BaFin approval for MiCA and PSD2/ZAG, enabling compliant crypto custody and payment services, including stablecoin support, across the EU.

BitGo Europe has received dual regulatory approval from Germany’s BaFin, allowing it to operate under both the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) and the Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2)/ZAG frameworks. This enables BitGo to offer payment services related to E-Money Tokens (EMTs), including stablecoins backed by fiat currencies, positioning Germany as a key hub for regulated digital asset infrastructure in the EU. With these licenses, BitGo can provide compliant crypto custody and payment solutions to institutional clients and fintechs across all 30 EEA countries. Its Crypto-as-a-Service (CaaS) platform allows financial institutions to integrate crypto features—such as buying, selling, and holding digital assets—directly within their own platforms. The platform offers multi-asset wallet infrastructure, API-based KYC onboarding, trading, settlement, and fiat-to-crypto on/off-ramps via SEPA. Custodial wallets are insured up to USD 250 million, and the platform includes policy controls and 24/7 support. This move highlights how crypto firms are adapting to the EU’s evolving regulatory landscape, accelerating institutional crypto adoption.
