Crypto Search Interest Plummets as 2025 Ends—Retail Pullback Deepens
Google search interest in crypto has dropped to yearly lows, reflecting weak retail sentiment after major market crashes in 2025. Institutional activity remains strong, but public enthusiasm and search volumes are at their lowest in over a year.
Google search interest in cryptocurrencies has dropped to its lowest levels in a year as 2025 comes to a close, signaling a significant decline in retail investor enthusiasm. According to Google Trends, global and US search volumes for terms like "crypto" and "cryptocurrency" have fallen to an index value of 26, just above the yearly low of 24. This downturn follows major market events, including an April crash linked to tariff policies and a severe $20 billion liquidation event in October, which saw Bitcoin's price fall from above $125,000 to around $80,000. Despite ongoing stability and growth in institutional activity—particularly in the APAC region, where transaction volumes rose 69% year-over-year—retail sentiment remains subdued, with the Crypto Fear & Greed Index reflecting extreme fear. The market appears to be entering a maturity phase, with institutional adoption and regulatory consistency supporting long-term stability even as public interest wanes.
