CME Group Unveils Spot-Quoted XRP and Solana Futures

CME Group has launched spot-quoted futures for XRP and Solana, offering small, cash-settled contracts that track real-time spot prices. The move aims to boost liquidity, accessibility, and risk management for crypto traders.

CME Group has introduced spot-quoted futures contracts for XRP and Solana (SOL), expanding its cryptocurrency derivatives offerings beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum. These new contracts, the smallest crypto contracts offered by CME to date, allow traders to gain exposure to real-time spot prices of XRP and SOL in USD through 250-unit contracts with low margins. The contracts are cash-settled and feature extended expiry dates, typically annual, enabling longer-term positions without the need for frequent rollovers. The launch also includes Trading at Settlement (TAS) for XRP, SOL, and their Micro futures, providing additional flexibility for managing risk, particularly around crypto ETFs. The spot-quoted structure ensures that futures prices closely track the spot market, distinguishing them from traditional futures that may trade at a premium or discount. CME’s move aims to enhance liquidity, price discovery, and accessibility for institutional and everyday traders, reflecting growing demand for regulated crypto derivatives and increased interest in alternative cryptocurrencies.
