Bitcoin breaks $86,000 on Uptober trend and weak jobs data
Bitcoin topped $86,000 in October, gaining up to 3% amid optimism and weak U.S. jobs data. The crypto market cap rose, and Ethereum advanced, despite higher bond yields and a strong dollar.
Bitcoin surged past $86,000 in early October, posting gains between 1.35% and 3%, according to multiple sources. The global crypto market cap also climbed by 2.27% to reach $2.93 trillion, reflecting broad optimism across digital assets. This rally followed a period of consolidation and was fueled by the historical "Uptober" trend, where October has traditionally delivered strong returns for Bitcoin. The momentum was further supported by the release of weaker-than-expected U.S. employment data, with non-farm payrolls at just 29,000 and unemployment rising to 4.2%. The disappointing jobs report increased expectations for a Federal Reserve rate pause, boosting demand for risk assets like Bitcoin. Despite headwinds from rising bond yields and a stronger dollar, Bitcoin maintained its upward trajectory, and Ethereum also posted gains. Analysts highlighted that ongoing geopolitical risks and the current interest rate environment contributed to a cautiously optimistic market outlook.
