Moderna stock surges on mRNA melanoma vaccine success
Moderna stock jumped up to 90% premarket after its mRNA melanoma vaccine, combined with Merck's Keytruda, showed strong Phase 3 results, reducing recurrence and metastasis.
Moderna's stock soared between 50% and over 90% in premarket trading after announcing positive Phase 3 results for its personalized mRNA-based melanoma vaccine, developed in partnership with Merck. The INTerpath-001 trial demonstrated that combining Moderna's intismeran autogene with Merck's Keytruda significantly reduced melanoma recurrence and distant metastasis compared to Keytruda alone. These results were considered both statistically and clinically meaningful. The trial enrolled approximately 1,100 patients with completely resected stage IIB-IV melanoma. Both companies plan to present the findings at an upcoming medical conference and are preparing for regulatory discussions. Merck's stock also rose by 6-7% following the news. Investors are now revaluing Moderna's entire mRNA platform, not just this specific program. However, uncertainties remain regarding the long-term durability and ultimate impact of the results. Technical analysis points to a bullish trend for Moderna shares, with strong momentum and potential for further gains.
