Altcoin market faces record net selling, no bottom yet
Altcoin spot markets have seen 15+ months of net selling, hitting a five-year low in buy-sell volume. Over 80% of altcoins trade below key averages, with no clear recovery or bottom yet.
Recent data from CryptoQuant shows that altcoin spot markets, excluding Bitcoin and Ethereum, have faced over 15 consecutive months of net selling. This has pushed the cumulative buy-sell volume difference to its lowest level in nearly five years, resulting in a deficit of around $209–$240 billion. Currently, about 84% of Binance-listed altcoins are trading below their 200-day moving averages. Despite occasional rebounds in major assets, the broader altcoin market lacks signs of a sustained recovery or a clear bottom. The ongoing net selling phase now rivals or surpasses previous bear markets, highlighting historically severe distribution and weak participation across the sector. Centralized exchange spot volumes have also dropped to multi-year lows, reflecting a reduced risk appetite among traders. Analysts observe that the gap between buyers and sellers continues to widen, with no stabilization or reversal in sight.
