CryptoQuant CEO: Stagnation is Bitcoin’s biggest risk

CryptoQuant’s CEO warns that Bitcoin’s biggest risk is prolonged stagnation, not crashes, as it erodes confidence, suppresses demand, and weakens key adoption narratives.

Ki Young Ju, CEO of CryptoQuant, warns that Bitcoin's greatest threat is not a sudden price crash, but a prolonged period of stagnation and waning investor interest. While sharp corrections can be weathered with hopes of recovery, extended sideways movement erodes investor confidence and suppresses demand, making it harder for new capital to enter the market. Ju points out that the narratives which once fueled Bitcoin’s adoption—such as its cypherpunk origins and its reputation as "digital gold"—have either matured or lost their impact, especially following the approval of spot ETFs and increased institutional participation. As Bitcoin’s price action increasingly mirrors that of tech stocks, even significant purchases may not be enough to sustain momentum during periods of stagnation. Ju emphasizes that the real risk lies in a prolonged contraction, which could weaken market faith, reduce liquidity, and make it more difficult to raise funds or maintain premiums on Bitcoin-linked shares.
