Coincheck Buys 3iQ for $112M, Expanding Global Crypto Reach
Coincheck Group will acquire 97% of Canadian digital asset manager 3iQ for $112 million in a stock deal, aiming to expand its global presence and access regulated crypto investment products.
Coincheck Group, a major Japanese cryptocurrency exchange, has agreed to acquire a 97% stake in Canadian digital asset manager 3iQ for approximately $112 million. The deal, structured as a stock exchange with Coincheck’s majority shareholder Monex Group, involves issuing 27.1 million new Coincheck shares valued at $4 each. Coincheck may extend similar terms to 3iQ’s minority shareholders to achieve full ownership. The acquisition, expected to close in the second quarter of 2026 pending regulatory approvals, will provide Coincheck with access to 3iQ’s suite of regulated crypto investment products, including pioneering Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, and XRP ETFs listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. This move follows Coincheck’s recent acquisitions of Aplo SAS and Next Finance Tech, and is aimed at expanding its global presence and institutional offerings, particularly in North America. The transaction is seen as a strategic step to enhance Coincheck’s asset management capabilities and cross-border synergy in the digital investment sector.
