Metaplanet Launches Dividend Shares for Global Bitcoin Investors

Metaplanet approved dividend-paying preferred shares for institutional investors, offering Bitcoin exposure without direct BTC ownership. The move includes new dividend structures, share buybacks, and expanded global access.

Metaplanet, Japan’s largest corporate Bitcoin holder, has approved a major overhaul of its capital structure, enabling the issuance of dividend-paying preferred shares targeted at institutional investors, particularly overseas. The company’s shareholders passed five proposals, including expanding the authorized number of Class A and B preferred shares, introducing monthly floating-rate dividends for Class A shares, and quarterly dividends with additional investor protections for Class B shares. These measures allow institutions to gain exposure to Metaplanet’s substantial Bitcoin holdings without directly owning spot BTC, blending traditional equity structures with crypto exposure. The new structure also includes mechanisms for share buybacks and capital reserve reclassification, aiming to attract global investors and provide income-generating opportunities. Metaplanet has also launched an American Depositary Receipt program to facilitate U.S. investor participation and established a subsidiary in Miami, further expanding its international reach.
