Itaú Unibanco Urges 1–3% Bitcoin Allocation for Diversification

Itaú Unibanco recommends a 1–3% Bitcoin allocation for portfolio diversification and currency hedging, citing low correlation with traditional assets and historical risk reduction. The bank stresses a measured, complementary approach.

Brazil’s largest private bank, Itaú Unibanco, through its asset management arm, is recommending investors allocate 1% to 3% of their portfolios to Bitcoin for 2025 and 2026. The bank highlights Bitcoin’s low correlation with traditional assets, such as stocks and bonds, and its potential to hedge against currency risks, especially amid Brazil’s volatile real and global economic uncertainties. Itaú’s internal data shows that its Bitcoin ETF, BITI11, has correlations often below 0.3 with major indices, supporting the case for diversification. The bank emphasizes that Bitcoin should complement, not dominate, portfolios, and notes that historical data shows portfolios with a small crypto allocation have experienced reduced overall risk and improved balance during stress scenarios. Itaú is expanding its digital asset offerings and encourages a measured, long-term approach to Bitcoin exposure, citing its strong historical returns and unique role as a global, decentralized asset. Other major banks, including Morgan Stanley and Bank of America, have issued similar recommendations for modest crypto allocations.
