Strategy Steps Back: Metaplanet Gets 12-Month Lead in Japan

Strategy will not issue perpetual preferred equity in Japan for 12 months, giving Metaplanet a head start to launch high-yield digital credit products Mercury and Mars in a market with few such instruments.

Michael Saylor has confirmed that Strategy (MicroStrategy) will not issue perpetual preferred equity or digital credit products in Japan for at least the next 12 months, providing Metaplanet with a clear head start in the Japanese market. This decision was announced during a conference, where Saylor stated he would give Metaplanet a twelve-month window before considering entry. Metaplanet is preparing to launch two new digital credit instruments, Mercury and Mars, aiming to offer yields significantly higher than traditional Japanese bank deposits, with Mercury promising a 4.9% yield in yen. These products are expected to become the sixth and seventh perpetual preferred instruments listed in Japan, a market currently featuring only five such products. Due to local regulations, Metaplanet will use a moving strike warrant structure for its offerings. While Strategy continues to expand its preferred equity products in the U.S. and Europe, Metaplanet is focused on building its presence in Japan, leveraging this period to educate regulators, build distribution, and connect with local investors.
