Morgan Stanley delays tokenized stock trading to 2027

Morgan Stanley delays tokenized stock trading on its ATS to Q1 2027, citing the need for more developed products and infrastructure. The bank projects tokenized assets could reach $3–$10 trillion by 2030.

Morgan Stanley has delayed the launch of tokenized stock trading on its Alternative Trading System (ATS) to the first quarter of 2027, revising its previous target of the second half of 2026. Amy Oldenburg cited the need for more mature products, supporting infrastructure, and limited institutional demand as reasons for the postponement. The bank is actively developing the necessary infrastructure, including proprietary custodial wallet technology, to support tokenized equities. Morgan Stanley estimates the market for tokenized real-world assets could grow to $3 trillion to $10 trillion by 2030, up from the current $39 billion. The ATS will internally match tokenized equity orders rather than routing them to public exchanges. Morgan Stanley is also closely monitoring regulatory changes and industry initiatives, such as the DTCC's tokenization service and the GENIUS Act, which could impact the adoption of tokenized assets.
