British investor recovers $4.5M in bitcoin from dormant wallet

A British investor recovered $4.5M in bitcoin lost since 2012 after CEL Solicitors traced a dormant wallet. Other old wallets have also reactivated, moving millions after years of inactivity.

A British investor has successfully recovered bitcoin now valued at approximately $4.5 million, after losing access to it over a decade ago. The investor originally bought bitcoin in December 2011 through Britcoin, a UK exchange that later became Intersango, investing around $2,000. When Intersango ceased trading in late 2012 and went offline by early 2014, the investor was unable to retrieve his funds. CEL Solicitors, a law firm, utilized crypto-tracing software to identify a wallet containing over 5,500 BTC linked to former Intersango users, which enabled the recovery. This breakthrough could open the door for other former Intersango customers to reclaim lost bitcoin, provided they can prove ownership. In related developments, several long-dormant bitcoin wallets have recently become active, moving a total of 202.84 BTC (about $15.73 million). Some of these wallets had not been touched since as early as 2011, highlighting the potential for significant assets to re-enter circulation and influence market dynamics.
