Mirae Asset injects $35M into Digital X after Korbit deal

Mirae Asset Group is investing $35M in Digital X, Korbit’s operator, via a share placement to strengthen finances and support operations after its recent acquisition and rebranding.

Mirae Asset Group is investing approximately 50 billion won (about $35 million) into Digital X, the operator of South Korean crypto exchange Korbit, through a third-party share placement. Digital X will issue over 10 million new shares at 4,961 won each, all allocated to Mirae Asset Consulting. This follows Mirae Asset Consulting’s July acquisition of Korbit for around 130 billion won ($91.5 million), bringing its stake in Digital X to 97.15%. The payment deadline for the new shares is August 27. The capital injection aims to strengthen Digital X’s financial structure and support its operational needs. This move comes after Digital X’s recent rebranding from Korbit Co., although the trading platform continues to operate under the Korbit name. Mirae Asset plans to develop Digital X into a platform that integrates both traditional and digital financial services as part of its "Mirae Asset 3.0" strategy. Korbit remains one of South Korea’s five fully licensed crypto exchanges, with the market largely dominated by Upbit and Bithumb. Other financial institutions, including Hana Bank and Samsung affiliates, are also expanding their presence in the sector.
