Mastercard acquires BVNK for up to $1.8B, marking the largest stablecoin sector deal. The move aims to integrate fiat and digital currencies and accelerate global digital asset adoption.
Mastercard has finalized its acquisition of BVNK, a global fintech platform specializing in stablecoin and digital asset payment infrastructure, in a deal valued at up to $1.8 billion. This represents the largest acquisition in the stablecoin sector to date, coinciding with the stablecoin market surpassing $309 billion in value. BVNK operates in over 130 countries, enabling businesses and financial institutions to convert, hold, transfer, and store both fiat and digital currencies. Mastercard’s strategy centers on integrating fiat and digital currencies, aiming to bridge traditional financial systems with the on-chain economy. By leveraging BVNK’s technology, Mastercard plans to streamline cross-border B2B transactions, treasury operations, and settlements, accelerating digital asset adoption in global finance. The acquisition also boosts interoperability between fiat, stablecoins, and tokenized deposits, supporting Mastercard’s vision for a multi-currency ecosystem. Notably, BVNK has served as a key infrastructure partner for Ripple, supporting XRP within its multichain infrastructure.
