Core Scientific and AMD sign $14B AI data center deal
Core Scientific and AMD signed a 15-year, $14B deal for 529 MW of AI data center capacity, with expansion up to 2.5 GW. This marks Core Scientific’s shift to AI infrastructure.
Core Scientific has secured a landmark 15-year partnership with AMD, valued at over $14 billion, signaling a major shift from bitcoin mining to AI-focused data centers. The deal grants AMD access to 529 megawatts (MW) of U.S. data center capacity starting in 2027, with the option to expand up to 2.5 gigawatts (GW) by 2028. As part of the agreement, AMD will receive market-priced warrants to purchase Core Scientific shares and will collaborate on data center design, deploying its Instinct GPUs, EPYC processors, and ROCm software. Additionally, an unnamed cloud provider has leased 152 MW at sites in Alabama and Georgia, further diversifying Core Scientific's customer base. The partnership is expected to generate more than $14 billion in base contracted revenue. Following the announcement, Core Scientific's stock rose 4.7% in premarket trading, while AMD's stock declined amid a broader chipmaker selloff. This deal accelerates Core Scientific's transition into the AI data center sector.
