Marathon Digital unveils $600M Texas campus for Bitcoin, AI
Marathon Digital is acquiring 1,200+ acres in Texas for a $600M campus targeting 2GW for Bitcoin mining and AI. The phased project, with milestone payments, boosted MARA shares up to 18%.
Marathon Digital Holdings has announced the acquisition of over 1,200 acres in Matagorda County, Texas, to develop a large-scale digital infrastructure campus. The facility will focus on Bitcoin mining and high-performance computing for AI applications. Valued at up to $600 million, the project will be funded through milestone-based payments linked to regulatory and development progress. The campus is planned to reach a total grid capacity of up to 2 gigawatts, with the first gigawatt expected online by October 2027 and the second by April 2028, pending approvals. The announcement led to a surge in MARA's share price, rising between 14% and 18%. Developed in partnership with Starwood Digital Ventures, the site will see seller HIF retain a minority stake once a high-performance computing tenant is secured. This move signals Marathon's strategic expansion beyond Bitcoin mining into broader digital infrastructure.
