Metaplanet boosts Bitcoin holdings, Q2 revenue declines
Metaplanet raised its Bitcoin holdings to 43,000 BTC after buying 2,823 more. Q2 Bitcoin income revenue fell 41% to ¥1.747 billion, but the company remains a top public Bitcoin holder.
Metaplanet, a publicly traded Japanese company, has expanded its Bitcoin holdings by acquiring an additional 2,823 BTC. This latest purchase brings its total Bitcoin reserves to 43,000 BTC, valued at approximately ¥35.89 billion, with an average acquisition price of ¥12.7 million per Bitcoin. The overall average purchase price now stands at ¥15.3 million per coin. With this move, Metaplanet solidifies its position as one of the largest public corporate Bitcoin holders, now controlling about 0.205% of the total Bitcoin supply. The company’s strategy focuses on acquiring and holding Bitcoin as a long-term reserve asset while generating extra income through related financial activities. In the second quarter of fiscal 2026, Metaplanet reported ¥1.747 billion (about $11 million) in revenue from its Bitcoin income business, primarily driven by selling cash-secured Bitcoin options. However, this figure marks a 41% decline from the previous quarter. Despite the drop, Metaplanet projects full-year revenue of approximately ¥16 billion and expects operating profit to reach around ¥11.4 billion, largely from its Bitcoin income segment.
