ICE CEO: Hyperliquid surpasses Nasdaq, disrupts markets

ICE CEO Jeffrey Sprecher says Hyperliquid is now "bigger than Nasdaq" and highlights its DeFi innovations. ICE is exploring collaboration and regulatory clarity as Hyperliquid disrupts traditional markets.

Jeffrey Sprecher, CEO of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), which owns the New York Stock Exchange, recently stated that Hyperliquid, a decentralized exchange operated by a team of 11, is now "bigger than Nasdaq." Sprecher highlighted Hyperliquid's innovative features, such as weekend crude oil trading and SpaceX derivatives, which have drawn significant interest from both traditional and decentralized finance sectors. ICE has held multiple meetings with Hyperliquid to discuss potential collaborations and shared learning opportunities. The 24/7 trading model and stablecoin settlements offered by Hyperliquid are challenging conventional market structures, prompting ICE to consider extending its own trading hours. Sprecher also raised concerns about regulatory differences between established exchanges and DeFi platforms, advocating for a "level playing field" in onchain perpetual futures trading. Hyperliquid's HIP-3 open interest reached a record $2.87 billion, and its HYPE token has seen notable growth, underscoring the growing convergence between traditional and decentralized finance.
