Harvard sells $87M Ethereum ETF stake, trims Bitcoin
Harvard sold its entire $87M Ethereum ETF stake in Q1 2026 and trimmed Bitcoin ETF holdings, but still holds over 3M Bitcoin ETF shares valued at nearly $117M.
Harvard Management Company has fully divested its $87 million stake in BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust ETF during the first quarter of 2026, according to SEC filings. The endowment sold all its Ethereum ETF shares after holding them for just one quarter, marking a complete exit from Ethereum-linked investments. Additionally, Harvard reduced its exposure to Bitcoin ETFs by selling approximately 2.3 million shares. However, it still retains over 3 million shares of BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF, valued at nearly $117 million. The filings did not specify a reason for the rapid exit from Ethereum or the reduction in Bitcoin holdings. These moves reflect a significant shift in Harvard’s digital asset allocation strategy, signaling notable de-risking from crypto ETFs amid declining investor sentiment and falling Ethereum prices.
