Emory University Doubles Down: $52M in Bitcoin ETF Holdings

Emory University has doubled its Grayscale Bitcoin ETF holdings to over 1 million shares worth about $51.8 million, signaling increased institutional interest in digital assets and portfolio diversification.

Emory University has significantly increased its investment in the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF, now holding over 1 million shares valued at approximately $51.8 million, according to recent SEC filings. This marks a substantial rise from its previous position of 487,636 shares in the prior quarter and a 245% increase since its initial $15 million investment in October 2024. The university's holdings in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin ETF remain unchanged at 4,450 shares, valued at $290,000. Emory also expanded its portfolio with a nearly $79 million stake in BlackRock’s iShares Gold Trust and a modest increase in Coinbase shares. The Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust, launched in July 2024, offers regulated exposure to spot Bitcoin with a 0.15% annual fee. Despite Emory’s growing interest, Grayscale’s ETFs have seen significant outflows, with over $21 billion redeemed in 2024 and an additional $3 billion withdrawn in 2025. Emory’s move reflects a broader trend of institutional adoption of digital assets and diversification beyond traditional investments.
