Robinhood Ventures Fund opens $75M access to OpenAI
Robinhood Ventures Fund I invested $75M in OpenAI, giving retail investors access to the AI firm via a public closed-end fund with no accreditation requirements.
Robinhood Ventures Fund I (RVI) has completed a $75 million investment in OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, marking one of its largest portfolio additions to date. The purchase of OpenAI common stock was finalized on April 17, 2026. RVI began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in March 2026 under the ticker RVI. Structured as a closed-end fund, it requires no accreditation or investment minimums, enabling retail investors to access private companies. The fund’s portfolio also includes high-growth firms such as Stripe, Databricks, Revolut, Ramp, ElevenLabs, Oura, Airwallex, Boom, and Mercor. Robinhood emphasized the shrinking number of publicly traded companies in the US, from about 7,000 in 2000 to around 4,000 in 2025. The OpenAI investment aims to give everyday investors exposure to leading AI firms while OpenAI remains private. Previously, Robinhood faced controversy over tokenized shares tied to OpenAI, which OpenAI contested as not representing actual equity.
